Boat to Gaafaru
Getting Here

An hour by sea, 62 km north of Malé.

Three ways to arrive. We meet you at Velana International Airport on arrival.

Gaafaru is one of the more accessible inhabited islands in the Maldives — close enough to Malé to be easy, far enough to be quiet. You land at Velana International Airport, our team meets you in arrivals with a sign, and an hour later you're stepping off the boat onto an electric buggy.

i. Shared speedboat
Option One · The Default

Shared speedboat

A ~1 hour crossing on a scheduled speedboat shared with other Gaafaru-bound guests. The simplest option, and the one bundled into every Niru package.

The boat departs Malé at 15:00 every day except Friday, and returns from Gaafaru at 07:00. Operated by Vella Express and Dream Speed.

ii. The slow ferry
Option Two · The Slow Way

Public ferry

For guests who prefer to arrive the way locals do. The MTCC public ferry (route 307) takes about four hours, runs on alternate days, and costs only a few dollars.

It's slow, it's cultural, and it's not for everyone. We're happy to advise — and to recommend it for guests who'd like at least one experience of moving the way the rest of the country moves.

iii. Norion private charter
Option Three · Private

Norion private charter

For late-night arrivals, families with young children, larger groups, or anyone who'd rather not run on a schedule. Norion Charters — our independent sister brand — runs a premium speedboat that meets you at arrivals immigration any time of day or night.

Recommended for any flight landing after 13:30, or any group who'd like the boat to themselves.

Arriving at Niru
Once You Arrive

An electric buggy, a sandy lane, a cold coconut.

You're collected from the Gaafaru jetty by an electric buggy, driven through quiet lanes to the guesthouse, and handed a fresh, cold coconut on arrival. Someone shows you your room. The rest of the week takes care of itself.
